We made it through the first month of 2024! Which also means that we’ve probably lost a bit of that new year, new me motivation, right? Or perhaps those goals we made at the beginning of January feel like they don’t quite fit anymore. Maybe you went too hard in January and now you feel burnt out and lost in achieving your ultimate goal. That’s where setting those intentions or mini-goals I talked about in this post will come in handy. Today we’re going to talk about how to set monthly intentions and a bit about my goals for February.
How to set Monthly Intentions
First, you need to look at your overall goal. Is it to lose weight in a certain time frame? Save money or pay off debt? Eat healthier? Whatever your goal might be, there are ways to break it down into smaller, more manageable chunks, or mini-goals. For example, if your goal is to pay off your credit card debt, a mini-goal would be to analyze your spending for a month. That way, you can see where each penny is going.
Next, you will set the intention to write down every expense you have for the month. You can do this daily or weekly. Write this intention on a sticky note and put it somewhere you will see it every day. (You’re bathroom mirror, dresser, or even put it on your lock screen on your phone!) This keeps it at the forefront of your mind and helps those who tend to forget things as soon as they aren’t looking at them.
Then next month, you can set another mini-goal. Perhaps it’s cutting back on lunches and dinners out and setting the intention to meal prep and menu plan each week. Or you’ll draft a trial budget, and the intention is to stick with it for the month.
So it goes a bit like this. 1-Identify the BIG GOAL. 2-Break it down into mini-goals. 3-What are the steps you can take to achieve your mini-goal?
My Goals for February
As I mentioned before, my big goal is to create a life that I love. And yes, I do still realize that that is a very fluid-sounding goal! But, it’s my life so I set whatever goal I want. My mini-goal for February is to build a consistent fitness routine. I often waffle back and forth between being active for a few days or weeks and then becoming a massive couch potato for double or triple the same amount of time. And I know that I feel my best when I am being active.
So my intentions to achieve my mini-goal are:
- Get to the gym 3x a week
- Starting running again
- Develop an at-home yoga practice (my studio I loved unfortunately closed last month!)
I’m also setting the goal of getting 80 ounces of water in each day. That number should be higher, but I’ve been struggling with drinking water these last couple of months, for some reason. So I’m going to start small and work my way up each month until I’m properly hydrated.
I hope this helps you to stick with your plans and achieve whatever goal you’ve set for yourself this year! Let me know in the comments below what your February mini-goals and intentions are.
